Kayak & Canoe Rentals for self-guided sea kayaking Vancouver Island adventures in the Discovery Islands & Quadra Island

When you begin a kayak rental from Coast Mountain Expeditions, you’re already in the heart of one of Vancouver Island’s prime kayak wilderness touring areas, close to rainforest trails, freshwater swimming lakes, secluded beaches, BC marine parks and island campsites. You can also enjoy an overnight (or stay a few days) at Discovery Islands Lodge B&B Hostel, a great place to start your BC kayaking vacation!

Most Coast Mountain & Discovery Lodge staff live close by and we have many years of BC kayak touring experience. We are very familiar with the Discovery Islands and coastal kayak touring. We can help you choose a kayaking route to suit your abilities, interests, and vacation time frame. We can also provide you with hints about special places in the Discovery Islands, and show you locations of drinking water and best camping places. We’ll provide sea kayaking navigation charts and tide and current tables. We can help you understand local tides and currents, show you how to read the tables, and help you decide best-tide timing for your route.

Sea kayak and canoe rentals are available from Discovery Islands Lodge, Coast Mountain's B&B kayak hostel on Quadra Island near Campbell River, Vancouver Island BC. When you’re ready to go kayaking, use our dock as your departure point! There is parking nearby.

Our Rental Kayaks

Coast Mountain Expeditions is pleased to offer a wide variety of state of the art fibreglass sea kayaks manufactured by Necky, Seaward, Nimbus and Current Designs. These sea kayaks are designed for kayak touring. Coast Mountain rental kayaks come fully equipped with a lightweight kayak paddle, sprayskirt (deck), PFD (lifejacket), self-rescue device, spare paddle, and chart.

We also rent Nigel Dennis Kayaks (www.seakayakinguk.com). These high performance sea kayaks are specially designed for advanced paddling, great for developing skills and technique, for kayaking in rough and moving water and playing in tidal rapids!

Canoe Rentals

We rent top quality Canadian made Esquif Canoes (www.esquif.com). For ocean paddling you can launch at Discovery Islands Lodge and explore island shorelines. Or drive 3 km (2 mi) to Main Lakes Provincial Park for a superb freshwater lakes paddling experience. We have roof top car carriers available for transporting canoes.

Per day $40
Each additional day $30

GST and PST additional.
Canoe & Kayak rentals return at 5 pm, or by special arrangement.

Important Notes

We want you to have a wonderful paddling experience and return safe & sound! Knowledge of basic paddling and kayak rescue skills is essential for safe kayaking adventures in BC.
•We may ask you to demonstrate proficiency.
•A liability waiver must be signed.
•Unaccompanied minors may not rent kayaks.

Reservations

Please book ahead for sea kayak and canoe rentals.
•When we receive your reservation, we will commit to having your requested equipment available on the dates reserved.
•Credit card deposit is required for 25% of rental cost or minimum $50.
•Balance of payment and security deposit will be taken at start of rental.

Cancellation

Please be sure of your dates and plans! When we reserve kayaks or canoe for you, we cannot have it available for anyone else, so cancellations will be subject to the following charges prior to the rental:
•30 days or more: charge equivalent to one day of rental
•29 - 7 days: 50% of rental cost
•Within 1 week: full rental cost will be charged

Coast Mountain Expeditions’ rental kayaks are available for departure from
Discovery Islands Lodge at the end of Surge Narrows Road, Quadra Island B.C. Quadra Island is a short BC Ferry ride from Campbell River, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.
